Having discovered skeletal anchorage at the AAO meeting in Chicago in 2000, the concept fascinated me to the point that I devoted a great deal of time and energy to it. This resulted in several publications, numerous national and international presentations, and the development of a new supra-structure that can be screwed directly onto the head of the anchors.

Abstract of Dr. Stephane Renger’s presentation at VAO-WIOC 2025

Can we use – and reuse – the same skeletal anchorage system to treat multiple malocclusions in the same patient?
Multipurpose miniscrews are emerging as an effective alternative for managing canine disimpaction, molar distalization, overjet, and overbite corrections, either successively or simultaneously.
This simple yet efficient system represents a new generation of appliances (“fixed and removable” or “removable and fixed”) that not only enhances treatment quality through better anchorage control but also reduces treatment time – especially beneficial for young adolescent patients in their growth phase.
